Opening Song:    Good, Good Father

Invocation
V:   In the name of the Father and of the  Son and of the Holy Spirit,
C:  AMEN
V:   Christ is Risen!
C:  He is risen indeed!  Alleluia!

We speak the beautiful words of Psalm 23
V:   The Lord is my shepherd,
C:  I shall not want.
V:   He makes me lie down in green pastures.
C:  He leads me beside still waters.
V:   He restores my soul.
C:  He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
V:   Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
C:  I will fear no evil,
V:   for You are with me;
C:  Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
V:   You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
C:  You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
V:   Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
C:  and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Confession and Absolution
V:   Join me as we seek God’s mercy and forgiveness.

O God our Father, we confess to You, that we are straying, wandering, disobedient sheep.  How often we have ignored Your voice and chased after other voices.  Satan calls to us, coming only to steal and kill and destroy.   …and we have listened, and we have gone astray.
C:  Have mercy on us and forgive us, O Lord.
V:   O God, hear now our individual confessions, for Jesus’ sake.
Silent confession of your sins
V:   Hear now the good news from God’s word!  Jesus, your Good Shepherd, “bore your sins in His body on the tree…”  and “By His wounds you have been healed.”  You are healed!  You are saved!  You are forgiven!  …in the Name of the Father and of the  Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C:  Amen.

First Reading                         Acts 2:42-47
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.  And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.  And all who believed were together and had all things in common.  And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.   And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people.  And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
V:   This is the Word of the Lord.
C:  Thanksbe to God.

Epistle Reading                     1 Peter 2:19-25
For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly.  For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure?  But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God.  For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.  He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.  When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.  He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.  By his wounds you have been healed.  For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
V:   This is the Word of the Lord.
C:  Thanksbe to God.

Holy Gospel                           John 10:1-17, 27-28
V:   The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the 10thchapter.
C:  Gloryto You, O Lord.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber.  But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.  To him the gatekeeper opens.  The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.  When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.  A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.”  This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.
So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.  All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.  I am the door.  If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.  I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.  He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.  He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.  I am the good shepherd.  I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.  And I have other sheep that are not of this fold.  I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice.  So, there will be one flock, one shepherd.  For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.  I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
V:   This is the Word of the Lord.
C:  Praise to You, O Christ.

Sermon

The Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.  Amen.

Prayers of the Church
V:   Let’s pray for all people, and for all their needs.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven,
     hallowed be Thy name,
     Thy kingdom come,
     Thy will be done on earth
          as it is in heaven;
     give us this day our daily bread;
     and forgive us our trespasses
          as we forgive those
          who trespass against us;
     and lead us not into temptation,
     but deliver us from evil.
     For Thine is the kingdom
          and the power and the glory
          forever and ever.  Amen.

The Benediction,  from the last three verses of Psalm 28
V:   The Lord is my strength and my shield;
            in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped;
                   my heart exults, and with my song, I give thanks to Him.
      The Lord is the strength of His people;
            He is the saving refuge of His anointed.

We pray:    Oh, save Your people and bless your heritage!
                   Be their shepherd and carry them forever.  AMEN

Closing Song:   All The Way My Savior Leads Me
